Such a shame there is no footage out there of her as "Mama Rose" in Gypsy (which she did on stage in the 80s) - I'd love to see that!
We did have at least one series of Laugh-In over here in the UK when I was a small child, and I remember we loved it, but I'm not sure how long it went on for. It was the first place anyone ever got to hear Tiny Tim's Tiptoe Through The Tulips, however, and that left a lasting impression! I also remember the catchphrases "Sock-it-to-me", "Here come da judge!", "The Fickle Finger of Fate" and "Verrrry Interesting..." were extremely popular in the school playground. Jx
Totally adore this woman. She and Ruth Buzzi were on Laugh-In from day one... and the show succeeded, thanks to their wit, energy and talent. Thanks for sharing this. Kizzes.
She has a prettier singing voice than I knew about. The clips I have seen of her in the past are so funny and this went to a place in the song I wasn't anticipating and it was really funny!
Same here Gabriel. I thought it was going to be a pretty ballad, and her voice shocked me too... and then she put her Worley touch on it and I was howling.
I miss this kind of wacky Humor, it uplifts the Spirit and she did it fabulously, didn't she? I wish they would run some of the old Laugh-In skits, we need it right now with how tense the whole World is.
11 years ago I screamed with glee when she popped up on Curb.
ReplyDeleteYou explain it well when I see her...glee!
DeleteNext to Lily Tomlin, she was my fave. No one else ever embraced whacky the way she did.
ReplyDeleteI agree Peenee. The whacky the better and that voice!!!!
DeleteYou bet your bippy!
ReplyDeleteI can’t believe I don’t remember this bit. I watched Laugh-In religiously and even had the albums! She was a riot.
ReplyDeleteOh I love her too! I loved everything about her too from the hair, style and that loud voice! She gave wacky it's definition I think.
ReplyDeleteHer house is as full as you and the houseboys
ReplyDeleteI adore the wackiness of it all.
ReplyDeleteShe is truly funny, she's on Twitter, in case you didn't know.
ReplyDeleteI very seldom make it over to twitter.
DeleteI loved her when she was on the Match Game.
ReplyDeleteShe was my favorite on Laugh-In. Loved how her voice could go from throaty to screechy in nothing flat!
ReplyDeleteMine too Deedles. I could have watched her and Ruth Buzzy all day.
DeleteShe was always so funny.
ReplyDelete"just to mention a few" LOL
ReplyDeleteROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just loved Jo Anne Worley! One of my favorite Laugh-In characters. She was like a bluejay, loud and sassy.
ReplyDeleteJo Anne Worley has always been La Loca!! And I love it! She never fails to make us chuckle.
ReplyDeleteThe best people are always a bit La Loca.
DeleteJo Anne and her hair are legendary henny!!!! This had me rolling. We need a show like this now.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me, her hair was the first thing I fell in love with.
DeleteI'm surprised this guy stayed around long enough to make 32 kids, LOL! Lily Tomlin's phone operator character was a hoot too!
