ANNOUNCING.... LADY TREMAINE

When I was a young lass, I loved me some Disney movies. But it was mostly because I loved the evil villainess or the glamorous princess or heroine. Now that I'm all grown up, I have not been disappointed with the live action movies of Disney. While 101 Dalmatians was mediocre at best, Glen Close was the prefect Cruella Deville. Years later came probably the best cast yet, with my favorite actress, Angelina Jolie cast as my favorite villain Maleficent. And there could have no better cast then that. It looked as if the cartoon version came to life perfectly. Now it appears I'm getting excited again with the forth coming Cinderella.....but mostly because of Lady Tremaine, who will be played by the talented Cate Blanchet. And she looks incredible!!!!!! If the Mistress were a woman......

Cinderella looks tantalizing, and from the few glimpses I have seen  promises to be a visually gorgeous film. The costumes, designed by three time Academy Award winner Sandy Powell, appear to be absolutely stunning. Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, played by another favorite actress of mine, Helena Bonham-Carter,is more glamorous than her animated counterpart. She is decked out in a fantastical 18th century style gown with a wide ruff made from layers of filmy ice-blue fabric. But the real star of the movie has to be the evil Stepmother, Lady Tremaine, played by Cate Blanchet.

We first see her stepping from her carriage with a cat on a leash!

Dressed in a formfitting gold lamé bodice with black florals, a full black skirt decorated with an eighteenth-century style floral pattern in a sickly shade of green-yellow, and an exaggerated bonnet that takes inspiration from both the 1830s and the 1950s. The extremely fashionable and heightened silhouette screams power, while the black and yellow color palette brings to mind a bee, poised to sting its prey. We also briefly see her in a leopard print, another reference to a dangerous beast of the wild. The outfit is reminiscent of the Marquise de Merteuil’s black and yellow travelling outfit from 1989’s Dangerous Liaisons, a fitting comparison as the Marquise is another scheming and manipulative character.

Lady Tremaine’s other outfits are no less fierce. Her green ensembles take inspiration from mid-20th century fashion designer Charles James’ ‘Butterfly’ dress. James’ gowns are known for their extremely sculptural quality and many have a rigid architecture supporting the layers of luxury fabric. This tight, structured, and sometimes harsh aesthetic is perfectly suited to the character of the evil Stepmother. And in contrast to the airy costumes of Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother, Lady Tremaine’s gowns are made of heavy satins and taffetas in oversaturated shades of green, yellow, and red, invoking themes of poison and danger. It also looks as if Cate really got into the part. Could this be yet another good cast?
By the evil look if her eyes and that smug smirk, I'd say so!!

  4. Darling Maddie,

You are absolutely right, but why is it that the evil characters are so much more satisfactory than their sugary sweet counterparts? This probably does say more about us than them!

What tantalising glimpses you give here of the fabulously fearsome Lady Tremaine. Exactly the kind of wicked stepmother that one has nightmares about.

The clothes are perfect. Vile green and bilious yellow make for a deathly combination and Cate wears them so well. Sprinkle liberally with black and, there you have it, the devil impersonated in a woman's body. Yes, Cinderella looks as if it is compulsive viewing!

I always loved the Disney evil queens and wicked stepmothers because they seemed the most fabulous of all.
And Angelina killed it as Maleficent.

  9. What a stunning movie indeed! I love Glen Close also, and though the only other person who could have played her was the great Phyllis Diller. But Cate will bring to life Lady Tremaine indeed! I hope this blogger debacle will not affect your blog? Do you know if it will?

    1. Thanks CJ!!!! Well apparently, blogger has decided as of March 23 to make some blogs with adult nudity or content , will not have to be private blogs, unless of course you remove the content, which is some cases would be some bloggers whole blog.. But some other blogs I have heard that don't have any adult content have also received the email about there blog as well. Which means if blogger changes it to private, unless you follow the blog already, or are invited to read the blog, no one else can view your blog. Many are viewing it as one more privilege being taken away, and just another rise of censorship from corporate America.

    2. You know, as soon as Google bought out blogger a couple years ago things have gone to shit! They are starting to get as picky as FB! Who by the way is always harassing me about my "CandyShop" photos. Humph! Anyways, I have my toes, fingers, and anything else that will cross, crossed for you and your friends blogs. Including mine! I've not received the email, but in bloggerlandia That doesn't always matter.

      Kisses!!!

I love your love of the finer things in life, particularly fashion. Cate Blanchett is awesome and the costumes you have highlighted are so perfect and lovely. I also like the fact the 'Lady Rose' and 'Daisy' from Downton Abbey will be playing Cinderella and a step sister, respectively.

Also, according to the Guardian, "Google has backtracked on plans to ban sexually explicit images from its blogging platform Blogger, in the face of widespread opposition from users. The company had initially announced a ban on “sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video”, with just a few exceptions for content which offered “a substantial public benefit, for example in artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific contexts”. It planned to enforce the ban from 23 March, when any user with offending material still on their blog would be forced to turn it into a private site. Now, the company has backed down. Jessica Pelegio, a social product support manager at Google, wrote: “We’ve had a ton of feedback, in particular about the introduction of a retroactive change (some people have had accounts for 10+ years), but also about the negative impact on individuals who post sexually explicit content to express their identities. “So rather than implement this change, we’ve decided to step up enforcement around our existing policy prohibiting commercial porn.”

So your houseboys are safe and should celebrate this weekend.

    Much Love,

    Ginger Mickey
