I was nowhere near born yet, but it was the end of our innocence as a country.

    1. we choose to go to the moon and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard"- Americans would not buy that today----do something because it is difficult? not most americans today

  2. Okay, you youngsters.... :-) I was seven years old and in another country and political system. Canada was still innocent until Rob Ford, mayor of Toronto, threw us into the spotlight...

  4. Hard to believe a half century has passed. He was a great man, Democrat and President. How different things could have been had he lived. We've very few Presidents, (either Democrat or Republican), that were as inspirational as this man was! Eternal peace Mr. President

  5. I was with my classmates in our third-grade classroom when our Catholic-school principal came on the PA system that was in every room. In all the chaos, she initially heard a mistaken report that it was Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, JFK's brother, who had been shot in Dallas, and the entire school joined with her in saying a prayer for him. About 15 to 20 minutes later, she came back on the PA, and you could hear in her voice she was shaken and sad, and she announced that it was the President himself who had been shot, and that he had died. Everybody in our class was stunned to hear that he was gone. The principal then led all of us in the school in praying the rosary for JFK, his family and our nation. I still remember it.

  7. What a elegant and poignant memorial! anyone thought of just simply showing respect for a man we loved - not because
he was perfect - but he brought to our country class, respect, humor, humanity , human failings - I have been so impressed listening about him this week - there was so much more to him - ergo - comparison to present or others - and I am a conservative has nothing to do with that - this guy was mesmerizing

  11. Before my time, but ;ike him or not like him, they were a BEAUTIFUL family!!! They gave a lift to the hearts of Americans. They really gave America a new look much like the Obama's of today.

  12. Very nice post! I agree with the above. I wasn't around, but they were different, a young first family with style and grace. I think the Obama's are that family for this time.

  14. American royalty - for better or worse. The presidency was never viewed in the same light again (thank you, Dirty Dick Nixon) and politics has since lost all its reverence and sanctity (thank you, G.W.). But John and Jackie? They were royal. - Uptonking from Wonderland Burlesque

  15. He was the first Catholic President.
He told Americans to ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.
    Established the Peace Corps.
Was committed to landing a man on the moon.
Stood down the Soviet Union during the Cuban Missle crisis.
    Started the laws ending segregation.
Issued an executive order ending housing discrimination..
He served his country in the Navy.
There were some negatives, but today is not the time to discuss them.
It is always easier to remember someone who is no longer with us kindly

  16. The ceremonies and commemorations were very moving and very sad. It's wonderful to know that the nation hasn't forgotten President Kennedy or that historically-tragic day
