CONFESSIONS TIME

The excitement is building.... and we will have to wait and see where this goes and how it does, I could care if the critics like it or not, though Queen Madonna might. I'm just glad she is releasing another grand adventure for us to immerse ourselves in. Her Confessions on the Dancefloor was hugely popular, and like my good handsome friend Sixpence with his post , I'll am right between him in the queue and pre-ordered the album. I wasn't just looking at his ass.

And leave it to our Queen to go deeper, like all else she does. The use of the pink veil by Madonna on her cover does not seem to be merely aesthetic if you ask me. The triangular shape created by the fabric evokes the pink triangle, a symbol with deep historical significance, used in Nazi concentration camps during WWII to identify us gay folk. Decades later, particularly in the 1970's and 80's the symbol was reclaimed by the LGBTQ community as an emblem of strong and powerful resistance and remembrance, and the fight for rights, and then used by ACT UP. The "Silence=Death poster featuring the triangle, became one of the most important icons of activism during the AIDS crisis. Madonna is no dummy...and has always been a true artist and an outspoken ally and fighter for the LGBTQ and a big trans ally in particular. In Madonna's visual aesthetic, the triangle appears more subtly, but I noticed it right quick. This parallel suggests to me that the Madonna may be engaging with this historical memory.  After all she has many , many, ties to our community.

She is Brillant! Whether or not she intended this as a deeper meaning or not, it is how I read into it. Her connecting her imagery to a symbol that represents both oppression and resistance, particularly in the context of the AIDS crisis and her fighting for LGBTQ visibility and being a huge part of the community for support. And at a time when this currently administration is acting out terribly towards the trans community in particular, not to mention acting like a bunch of miserable bastards who don't know what they are doing. Here she is again ...popping up when we could all use some fun, escaping music, with her sending a few messages.

Is this just a coincidence? Who knows...but I'm ready with my veils and unitards and whatever else in needed.

  1. Mistress, I am glad you mentioned ACT UP from a historical perspective. This Generation of youngsters doesn't truly realize how important True Activism is; ACT UP brought our fight for awareness of HIV treatment to the forefront and our fight for Equality. Thank You!!!!

ACT UP, I remember how they were considered so extreme and radical.
One had to be extreme and radical when a community ignored was in the shadow and valley of death. ACT UP and an enlightened Surgeon General Everett Coop finally brought attention of the AIDS crisis to a culpable and willfully ignorant administration.

    1. I agree with your comment. It reminds me of a African proverb....The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth"

  3. As with all things Madge I have a wait-and-see attitude if she's going to be the in your face Madge of old or not.
I could use a good protest song, even if I have to dance to it!

  4. Being she's damned near as Old as me Maddie, she's looking like she's holding up damned well, and she's not afraid of being controversial and militant about important topics, so, go Madge.

  5. I can't wait to hear it, either!

Interesting connections being made here - she was there in the 80s in the thick of it during the AIDS pandemic, and I have no doubt she was aware of the symbolism. Whether that's actually the intention of the pose on the cover of the album, heaven knows. I'm sure Madge will enlighten us... Jx

  6. Yes, babes. YES!
I absolutely agree with you. And like you, I went and preordered the record. I’m getting it in vinyl, also, cause I know it’s gonna be loaded with goodies.
Love the interpretation of the pink triangle! I saw it more as her unveiling another reinvention, and as a wonk and a nod to her critics. BTW I see no people having a problem with The Stones or Paul McCartney putting out more music. They are encouraged by the media and society. And they are older than Madge. I

    1. I am a forever fan. Do I like all her output? No. Rebel Heart gave me two songs and American Life three. Am I enjoying the new record? You bet your perky ass I am.

      XOXO

    2. Oh I agree! Rebel Heart and American Life had to be her two worst albums, I don't even own them. And the hard candy album was probably a close third for me, although she had three good songs off that one.
