THE WHITBY

While I was in New York for work and then  seeing the new Hudson Yards and playing in Neiman's new store....I think it might have herald the end of my hibernation.

I'm looking forward to my outdoor work outs again, provided it stays nice. Everyone always asks me where to stay in New York. When I used to go up for play, I would stay at my good friend and sister's Mame, aka David Dust. But since he has vacated New York, it is back to hotels. There are so many variables that go into choosing a hotel in the city that it’s always hard to make recommendations. I might just make things easier by telling everyone to stay at the Whitby Hotel. We all don't mind spending frivolous money on one thing or another....hotels are one of mine. I generally like boutique hotels best, as chains I find, one doesn't get the service they used to, and in chains one runs the risk of screaming kids and loud mouth teens. I can't tell you what all that yodeling does to my ears. I have also been finding the up keep and cleanliness of some chains to have gone down hill. I and the ex had a nightmare of a stay at a Best Western once. I still shutter. No. I have no problem dropping doe for a beautiful atmosphere and service and a hotel with a good bar and dinning options.
Love this light fitting!
Each basket has a ticket from country of origin.
A drawing and reading room. Some pretty good titles too.
Their afternoon tea is quite something, and worth it if you don't want lunch or a big dinner.

Kit Kemp has been at the forefront of the international design community, with her signature style that mixes contemporary elements with antiques and junk-shop finds, luxurious fabrics with printed wallpapers, and hand-finished detailing with collections of simple objects that create impact. She avoids taking design too seriously, playing with scale, color and pattern to create very personal, handcrafted spaces. She is the one behind the feel and interior design of the Whitby In New York. It's almost a given it's where I stay when I find myself there. Every stay is like a little adventure and eye candy abounds in the hotel, plus it's a stone throw from the Museum of Modern Art. I almost never wanted to leave my room.
Like Lisa Douglas....I adore a penthouse view.....and martini's in the room!
And you'd be hard pressed to get me out of that tub! Shame I didn't have a man with me.

Now this Saturday night found me in a room at the Hotel Palomar for a had out of towners in for some debauchery . The Palomar is another of my favorite hotels to stay when in town. It's like a little escape in my own backyard.
I have always adored the interior of the elevators.
Cock-a-tails abounded today with brunch and a hang over....and at the other end of the bar was Fern Mallis...so there was that.
Like good blog pal Penguin asked, do you prefer a certain go to hotel, or do you prefer chains over boutique hotels?

  2. Oh Mistress I adore you. I too love the Whitby. My daughter and I just spent 5 wonderful days at the Whitby back in February.William joined us for 2 of the days as well. I have no complaints what so ever. The hotel is beautiful, spotless and it feels like home away from home. Every staff we came across in reception, the doormen, the waiters concierge and so on were all super lovely. They all seemed genuinely interested and made us feel welcome. I usually stay downtown at their sister hotel The Crosby, when in nyc. Have you tried them yet. I too have heard of the Palomar but haven't been yet. Love you boots!!!!! You ass kicker.

  5. It's been too long since I've been in a NYC hotel! We used to stay with family, but they've relocated, so thank you for the recommendations, sugar! These look divine! xoxo

  6. We always stay at the smaller hotels because the service seems far more personal. This is a lovely place and goes on my list!

  8. I love the quirky, exotic and AMAZING interior of the place. I too spend good money on a hotel, for a great bathroom alone. A dirty , scumy bathroom with paper thin towels is a huge turn off for me. I'll have to check this put next time I get to New York.

  9. I just saw how much the Whitby costs. No way I'm staying there solo. Someone else is picking up part of that tab.

Glad you had fun in both places.

  10. This hotel is absolutely adorable! But I'm a cheap bitch when it comes to lodging. Gimmie a bed and clean bath and I'm happy. Do you stay there often???

    1. After seeing your style, the Whitby and the Palomar has you written all over it. And order in escorts! I adore the elevators at the Palomar. I wanted to check out the other two, but didn't.

  12. A first class experience indeed! I used to be a big chain hotel person, but like Bob said, I find now the boutique hotels have much more personal service and great small touches. Love the shot of your martini! Good thing it didn't take a dive. Yikes.

  14. When in New York, I have been by the place but have yet to stay or go in for a drink. Just by your pictures it looks to be Chic, Intelligent, Beautiful and has a great vibe...but HOMEY too! Beautiful room and bath! And you travel light. Two bags? You wouldn't want to see my travel pieces. I enjoyed your sharing this.

  15. Nowadays, we drag our own little hotel with us. Well, yeah, it's a trailer but it is much cheaper to go to a KOA park than a hotel. The money we save by doing this goes to more fun stuff, like sight seeing, meals out, visiting family (okay, that one is obligatory) and shopping(okay that one is Balder Half's idea of fun). I do, however love cruise ships, as long as they aren't being attacked by ice floes, viruses or pirates! I do love a nice luxurious hotel every now and then.

  18. Nice, very nice. I only do the boutique route with a good recommendation, I have had a few poorly designed rooms in boutique hotels. Time to plan a trip back to New York!

  19. Wow. This looks wonderful. But not as convenient to my brother’s AND perhaps a bit steep for a 2 week stay every year. We stayed last time at the Nu Hotel in Downtown Brooklyn area. A fun, cool, boutique hotel, but not at this level!
