CHECKING IN WITH KRYSTLE AND ALEXIS

Have you seen Krystle and Alexis lately? There fountain and pool fights were as legendary as their shoulder pads. But poor Krystle........ My mother always said "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything."

And then there's Alexis.......

Alexis still looks pretty good for 80, and could probably still kick Krystle's butt. I still think Joan looks better with shorter hair though....

So much more chic. And let us not even get started on the Electric Mayhem's Janice from the Muppets......

Time with the band must have clouded her judgment darlings.

YOU NEVER HEARD OF A FASTNACHT???

Down south, New Orleanians and other sinful revelers are celebrating Mardi Gras, the last day you have to get all of the sins out of your system before you have to repent from all of them on Ash Wednesday. I can't participate in that , as I'd need a week to repent.
King Cake, a flaky, cinnamon roll-like dessert is served along with the booze and the beads through the Mardi Gras season up until Fat Tuesday. Again, I already have enough booze in take. So for me it's all about Fastnacht Day!!!!!!

Not just any doughnut, mind — today is Fastnacht Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent when people traditionally eat up whatever sugar, eggs, butter, flour and lard they have on hand before the season of fasting begins. Fastnacht Day is an annual Pennsylvania Dutch celebration and the word fastnacht translates to "Fast Night" in English. The tradition is to eat the very best foods, which are part of the German tradition, and lots of it, before the Lenten fast. Fastnachts are essentially  doughnuts. There are three types of Fastnachts, one made with yeast, one made with baking powder, and one made with potatoes and yeast. All are slightly crispy on the outside and not as sweet as standard doughnuts.
Having grown up in an area of Pennsylvania that celebrates Fastnacht Day, I have witnessed the throngs of people that come out early Tuesday morning to ensure they’re able to get their hands on a box of the tasty treats. For most bakeries and grocery stores, the production of fastnachts begins Sunday night and runs round-the-clock until the last box has been sold on Tuesday. I can still see my grandmother when I was young. She would take me to the church she went to where her and a tons of church ladies would make lots of fasnachts, and they would be completely gone by mid day.

Yesterday when I was off, I ran out to grab my own supply, and a box to take to my co-workers, who will no doubt look at me like I'm nuts, as they will have never heard of Fastnachts before. I headed over to Oak Grove Farms here in Buckingham, where I put in a order last week. They were going fast. If your in Center City Philadelphia head over to Keith Beiler's, who makes fasnachts at his family’s bakery stand in the Reading Terminal Market. They are delish. They are light and fluffy and not heavy light doughnuts. Here are the gems I got.......

Drooling is permitted.

FRIGID MONDAY FROM PROVINCETOWN

Happy Monday Everybody!!!!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. The Lad and I went on a very cold jaunt out of town for the weekend, and I'm sleeping in today as I'm off..... and staying warm in the bed. It went down to -2 last night, so yours truly even slept with his Calvin's on last night, which is unheard of. Today's Monday moments are compliments of my dear blog reader and friend Pearl Gates. Pearly as I call her, hails from Provincetown. We have met three times now when I go up to P-Town. This fierce queen sent me an email with photos from the current blizzard. The poor thing went without power for almost a day in these unbearably cold temps, but has been restored now. I have the feeling she hasn't visited the Dick Dock lately. Let's all send Pearl some warm lovin kisses!!! From Pearl.....

"With the tremendous drifts of four and five feet and more around town, it's pretty hard to say how much snow we really got. Many on my street and even down Commercial Street, had all the snow blown up onto the patios and formed chest-high drifts, leaving residents and some businesses unable to open the front or back doors to the building. They had to wait for someone to come and shovel them out, as did thousands cape wide. In the meantime, I was waiting for the power to come back on, which we loss on Friday evening, along with about 97% of Provincetown residents whose electricity had gone out during the storm. Provincetown's power began coming back on within about 13 hours, and most of the town's electricity seemed to have been restored relatively quickly, given the severe winds of this very powerful storm, which may turn out to be one for the books. I've been all over the internet  since ,trying to find an exact snow total for Provincetown in the "Blizzard of 2015," but "total unavailable" is all I can find. We do know that snowfall from this fierce storm broke a record or two in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Blowing and drifting snows in the coastal areas are much harder to measure than depths in towns farther inland.  The devil is in the tremendous drifts whipped up by winds that officially gusted to 75 miles per hour here at the Cape's tip. I spoke to a dispatcher at the Provincetown Police Department who gave the opinion of a two-and-a-half, but even at that, many of us are still digging out through several feet of drifted snow. I am now just glad to be reading the Casa going on's Mistress. Do you have room for another one there???? This weather is wrecking havoc on my wigs""

Pearl's neighbors house!!!!!! Where in hell do they put the snow?!?!?!?

The back of Pearl Gates' house......

This is the house the Mistress usually stays in. Pearl says it's almost buried!!!!

Hard to believe this is the same beach locale and one of my summertime playgrounds.

With Valentine festivities over, how about we wind down with a glass of wine, or 5 and some of the fabulous singer Julie London...one of my all time favorites and hopefully one of yours. It don't get any sexier than this...

And apparently her or I are good girls. Could you pass the jam?
