Friday the 13th has been widely regarded in Western culture as an exceptionally unlucky day, blending the superstition surrounding the number 13, with long standing belief that Friday is a day of bad fortune. How can that be when the weekend is upon us??? It's a double whammy of superstitious fear which has been amplified by historical events, and popular horror films, and even the Thirteen Club, going all the way back to biblical tradition, 13 guest attended the Last Supper, one of whom betrayed Jesus, giving longstanding superstition that having 13 guests at a table was a bad omen. Specifically courting death. Though some suggested they have roots in Christian tradition...Jesus was crucified on a Friday, Eve gave Adam the fateful apple from the Tree of Knowledge on a Friday, as well as the day Cain killed his brother Abel, if you believe the Book. Call me a witch then, but Friday's have always been my favorite day of the week, and Friday the 13th's have always been extra good days for me!!! Just as I adore Black Cats!
Happy Friday the 13th kids!

I am starting a five-day weekend, so it's a great day for me!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday 13th!!!!
Somebody, quick! Have a dinner party for 13 - invite the Orange Ogre - then leave.
ReplyDeleteI'm not that crazy, I don't want that bastard anywhere near my house .. he is bad luck.
DeleteMy current favourite cat is black with some white blotches - enough white blotches to make sure no-one calls me out as a witch. To ensure that nothing goes wrong today I have given a friend a hag stone to protect her against witches (just in case).
ReplyDeleteI never heard of a hag Stone. Does it look like Pam Bondi?
DeleteA hag stone is a Scottish way of warding off witches. The stones should theoretically be tied to the reins of your horse. A proper hag stone has a naturally made hole all the way through the stone. Making your own hole won't frighten the witches away.
DeleteHRH the Cat and I wish you a GREAT day today!
ReplyDeleteHave a good one today!
ReplyDeleteI've entered my seventh decade today. I have something wise and pithy to say. Aw screw it! I'm eating some chicken and going back to bed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Duchess Deedles, and may none of your chickens be rubber ones!
DeleteYES HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR DUCHESS DEEDLES!!!!!!! I hope you had a special day! Even if only to look at that back of your eyelids!!!! Love you!
DeleteDear Deedles if you can, do avoid getting ill in your seventh, eighth and maybe ninth (if you feel up to being here that long) decades. Keeping fit and well is a major plus in living long.
DeleteT.G.I.F. the 13th, Maddie! May your luck overfloweth today, if not your cock-a-tails!
ReplyDeleteThe cock-a-tails always seem to overflow....
DeleteLet’s do witchcraft!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Black cats are generally considered good luck in the UK, and a black cat crossing your path is a sign of prosperity, good fortune, and protection. Fingers crossed. Jx
ReplyDeleteI have only ever had one cat...and she was a beautiful black cat! Send them across my path.
DeleteIt’s a good job I have my collection of 4 leaf clovers to protect me!
ReplyDeleteSx
I have a friend, that when she is out in a field or garden and there are lots of clover...leave it to her to find a four-leaf clover EVERY time. She collects them too.
