SCREAM QUEENS, HOLD ON TO YOURSELVES.......

Ryan Burke

Back when I was doing drag regularly, the only thing better to me than drag itself, was doing drag at Halloween. You could really be any character you wanted to be, or break away from your signature style. But some queens have a unique, gothic, almost bizarre, or eerie feeling to them, almost as if it's Halloween year round. Of course the Queen of Scare would have to go to Sharon Needles, which I featured in a scary post a week ago here. But some of my other favorites are these gals, who are downright talented, and from the more odd form of drag, but still flawless and elegant none the less.

MADDELYNN HATTER

Maddelynn is a definite mover and shake in the drag world. She, in my opinion needs more exposure for all to see. And a name HAS NEVER fit a queen more. Her acts are flawless, odd, manic, and can get very bizarre. If your ever in NYC, check one of her shows out, there excellent!!!!! And can you beat that look?!?!?!? It's like the Mad Hatter and Joker had a love child!

PEACHES CHRIST

oHHHHHH Peaches Christ!!!!! This queen has been using bizarre and scare for years in the San Franciso area with her infamous show in the Castro for her Midnight Mass show, and always infuses a great deal of comedy. Another must see!

PORCELAIN

Very proud of our hometown gal, Porcelain! From Philadelphia, she can put on one hell of a show. Very limber, and has even done routines on a stripper pole!!! She is probably very neck and neck with style and the bizarre right next to Ms Needles. And Porcelain can paint a face........FLAWLESS!!! All hail the Dark Queen!!!!!

YARA SOFIA

I had known of Yara for sometime, but she was pretty much unknown to most people till RuPaul's Drag Race. But has she taken off since. Her style has gotten darker and eerie, making her a perfect choice for our scream queen collection. Half the time I'm scared out of my wits what will come out her hair creations, or if one of those long braids or extensions will lash out and grab my neck!!!!!!

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
WHO is the SCARIEST QUEEN of ALL?????

Grande Dame..The Queens of Screams

With the most fun holiday approaching, it just wouldn't be righ to not  feature some of my favorite Queens of Screams. These gals all have broken the drag stereo type of what drag should be, and just greeted the eerie, dark and sinister into there looks, and somehow it all works! Drag should be about fun and camp, not resembling a real woman in my opinion, and these gals have got the looks and the creativity to knock us dead!

Sharon Needles

Rewind to 1981. Sequestered in the Iowa cornfields, Sharon Needles is born to a single parent: a television. She’s a bad girl. She discovers makeup—perhaps, too early. A high school dropout, she earns her diploma on the streets. Fast-forward to 2004. A staple on the Pittsburgh nightlife scene, this underground queen captures the affection of the local media as a stupid genius, a reviled sweetheart, a PBR princess, a drag queen… ah…make that a Fag Punk. She’s drop-dead dazzling. She thinks she’s Amanda Lepore. She’s more like Vampira. Break through to 2012. Reality Television, she’s there, exuding warmth, love, laughter, and… blood. A post-Warhol mannequin, this Queer icon is on two million television sets in America—brainless, brain-dead, brainy RuPaul alumni. With the look of a cover model and the soul of a shoe, she lives everyday as if it were Halloween…. or her last. And her performances in Philly have been legendary.

Peaches Christ

Peaches Christ, a bona-fide direct descendant of Jesus, is an accomplished emcee, actress, producer, and part-time cult-leader. Ms. Christ currently resides in San Francisco where her company Peaches Christ Productions is based. Her Midnight Mass events and Short Film Retrospective, entitled “An Evening With Peaches Christ”, have been witnessed by thousands of now-converts not only all across the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and parts of Europe. Peaches is also know for her colorfully dark style and looks!

Porcelain.

I have seen her spell binding performances numerous times in Mimi Imfurst's Doll House Revue. Wide-eyed drag queen Porcelain instantly captivated Philadelphia with her white-as-snow complexion and immaculate makeup. The young Philly-based performer and Goth goddess is known to wow a crowd with her suspension and acrobatic pole acts. At 23, it’s both impressive and fascinating that someone so young can transform herself into a magnificent dark beauty for the world to see.

Draggin at My Wild Tea Party

Well, no one more than me, is glad to put this week to bed!!! So if you'll just hush, I'll explain my absence. Between regular work duties, a huge store visit, training a new assistant, and last weekend, the ex- Boy Toy had emergency appendix surgery, so my little Buster Bolfig Borghese has been with me ever since!!! The highlight last week was a charity drag show for Philadelphia AIDS Thrift, which is incorporated in Pennsylvania as a non-profit business. They are also a federally recognized tax-exempt charitable organization. Their mission is to sell the lovely, useful and interesting stuff generous people donate to their thrift store and then distribute the proceeds to local organizations involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and to hospice aids houses. Miss Miriam Webster talked the Mistress to coming out of retirement, in a rare appearance, for the event, and in addition, Miriam also hooked up the Drag Race tour with the show , which brought a huge amount of funding in! Present were Raja, Manila Luzon, Carmen Carrera,Nina Flowers, Morgan McMichaels, Yara Sofia, and Raven! All of which except for Yara were much taller than I expected, but all very stunning and sweet as pie!

And then there was the Philadelphia queens. Here is Miriam Webster and Satine Harlow. These girls are part of Mimi Imfurst's The Dollhouse Revue at Voyager on Wednesday nights. Mimi's is really bringing quite the drag show with the Dollhouse!

Miss Porcelain and Missy Maven on the right. Rumors are abounding about Missy for a possible Drag Race season 6 dragtestant!

I have no idea who the last drunken harlot is.

The show was a huge success and raised much needed funds for further operations. Now the Mistress is tucking everything away again till next time. I had forgotten how much time it takes for make-up, pulling in, layering, hair in place , and the minding of carrying your self proper all night. The fabulous feather hat was a huge thank you to the creative talents of Christian Marcus David Millner! Tootles till later lambchops!!!!
