The Kenya trip I knew was going to be a memorable and spectacular one. The highlight of the trip was the Sheldrick Trust I had longed to go see, what with my love of elephants and years of making charitable donations. But let's be honest, this trip had many highlights and experiences I may never experience again or forget. Another leg of our trip took us to Giraffe Manor. You've likely seen photos or a special of this place. Yes...it is THAT hotel...where giraffes will peak their heads in your windows. or even crane their necks through the windows. I can honestly say it was a very special moment and experience that has been at the top of my bucket list for over a decade. The Giraffe Manor was built in 1932 and was modeled after a Scottish hunting lodge. The giraffes weren't introduced until the 1970's. This is when the owners, Jock and Betty Melville, first adopted an orphaned endangered Rothchild's giraffe, they called Daisy. At the time, there were only about 130 of them left. Thanks to them and the help of others there are now well over 300 of these giraffes and counting, and the property has about 10-20 regular giraffe visitors. And they roam freely on the 15 acres at will. They are gentle giants...and very curious and seem so calm and gracefully for their size. We spent three days and two nights here, taking in these creatures, the swell and attentive staff, the picturesque grounds and other guest from all over the globe. The Manor also take care of your transportation to and from the manor. They picked us up at our other hotel outside of Nairobi. Upon getting to the manor, refreshing drinks awaited, and our luggage taken to our rooms. While the service and attention were unparalleled, the giraffes alone were by far the most magical part...and something I won't soon forget. I think the pictures alone speak to the amazement though. I knew they were big, but you take for granted just how big till your so close to them.

GIRAFFES OF THE MANOR
Our first morning surprise!!!!!!!!!
The stay was worth every penny. I'd say this was second to the Orient Express to Vienna trip in price. But boy, if I never go anywhere again...this trip gave me memories for a lifetime. If anyone is interested in info or prices feel free to email me. I will be giving Warbucks whatever he wants, even though this was our Christmas together.
And just listen to those birds!
