THE NURVE!

Cards on the table...I didn't know much about Onya Nurve when the new season of Drag Race started. From what a gathered and have heard from queens I know, I still say she will be top 4 from my original post here, and... but, since after what I have seen, I dare say she will be top 2.  Can you say charismatic? This queen oozes charisma and entertainment and hilarity.  She is one of the few to have all four of the C.U.N.T. This queen wears her Northeast Ohio roots proudly, being a native of Canton, Ohio, and a Cleveland Insititute of Art alum. Onya only started doing drag in 2021 and has hit the ground running since, performing all around Northeast Ohio and winning various drag competitions. Why... we haven't seen a queen from Ohio since season 1 for Pete's sake. Onya approaches drag very authentically, and I love that she keeps and pays homage to classic drag and at times club kid vibe in her style. And she KNOWS how to incorporate her background and ethnicity into her drag persona as well. I think a lot of what she's drawn to comes from her as a person, but not necessarily a persona, but an extension of who she is. As an artist, she recognizes that a lot of the art world and drag is centered around white men, so Onya likes to represent Black culture because it's not always represented in the art world, or represented in the drag world much like it's white counterparts. Onya still thinks there is a lot of work that can be done. A queen once asked her that I know, what cocktail would be her signature cocktail, and she replied, she'd keep it simple...a perfect gin and tonic, where the gin would be floral with a limey touch, and it would be called Onya Gin! I knew I loved this bitch.

  4. Onya Nurve is my favorite. Everything about this queen makes me smile whenever she appears on camera. I totally did not like how she took the adornments one of the other queens had picked to use, and I did not buy Onya's explanation of "sharing" when all the queens were to have grabbed what they wanted at the get go. It was stealing, plain and simple. Other than that, though I wouldn't trust Onya not to stab me in the back, I just think she's the cutest thing.

  5. I wasn't sure about her when she admitted she can't sew in a sewing challenge, but, and I'll channel my inner Ru, she really stepped her pussy up !

  7. Can we just talk about how gorgeous Onya is in these pictures?!? I think she has the street smarts vibe than queens had back in the 60's and 70's.

And I think your right...the show is sooooooo clear what the top four will be already. As usual, four queen to compete, the rest-filler. She’s a natural talent, with a million-dollar smile.

  15. She's fabulous and that NAME!!
I think her win was more than justified. She may not know how to sew, but this girl has that 'it' thing that makes a Drag artist memorable. I also think those other women should not disregard the fact that she IS competition.

    XOXO

    1. I think that's why I like her. When dryrag was in its heyday .... and taking off especially in the 80s and 90s very few Queens sewed their own clothes. We threw looks together from off the rack.. vintage stores.. and thrift shops. And that was how drag Queens stood out and made their own Style away from the pack of the pageant Queens.
