Where does the time go? I got back in town on Tuesday night late, from Bretton Woods New Hampshire. It was a very impromptu trip. Warbucks was returning to the US to sell off his remaining land and property, since he has adamantly decided he will not be returning to the US. And could I blame him? Once my dwindling family is all but me, I'm not so sure I too just might be joining him. Having never been to Bretton Woods, I jump at the chance to relax for a week. Bretton Woods is a stunning destination and still snow covered when we got there. The place is perfect for nature lovers and history buffs alike. It's nestled in the heart of the White Mountains, in the highest point of any mountain range in the northeast. I myself did absolutely nothing but relax in the Omni Mount Washington Hotel, where I had a lovely spa day on the day Warbucks was handling his business, the works too. I got the 7-hour treatment! I was putty in my spa technician, Colin's hands. We both used the tanning beds one day. The place is breathtaking. I learned the Omni Mount Washington Hotel is also one of the most haunted hotels in the country and has a reputation for being spooky. The hotel was also the inspiration for King when it came to writing the Shinning. While I saw no ghost. I will admit the place does have a very uneasy, heavy feeling...I definitely sensed presence, but not necessarily bad.
Carolyn Stickney, the wife of Joseph, owner of the place spent a great deal of time over the years at the hotel during the summers where she slept and ate in many of the hotel guest rooms. It is said that Carolyn haunts room 314, where it used to be her room. Carolyn died in 1936 and since then, many guest and workers have reported seeing a woman in Victorian garb floating around the hallways. Even upon checking in the front desk staff told us to rest assured that any of the ghost are friendly and don't cause harm or disruptions to guest. The vibe was kind of cool, I admit, but I didn't like walking around when it was quiet. I got an uneasy feeling. I mean if I had rounded a corner and saw two hot gay twins apparitions...heavens know what they would have done to me!!!! But no doubt the place and scenery are breathtaking
While it was a low-key trip, it was nice to unplug, relax, explore and get caught up reading, and taking some winter walks. Overall, there is an eerie vibe that is often felt throughout the hotel, which just adds to the charm if you ask me. Or maybe it was just the cock-a-tails?
