A democrat, Erica Deuso, easily won a race in Downingtown, an outlying suburb of Philadelphia last Tuesday. And just why was that so great??? She became the first Pennsylvanian to serve as an openly transgender mayor!
Now, Mayor Erica Deuso, a former political organizer, received 64% of the vote to defeat Republican Richard Bryant, and in a fairly heavy red area on top of everything else. My goddess isn't that some great news! People looking pass people choices and lifestyles for someone to do the job, not to mention in a time with the Party of Rot in control! Deuso is a scientist, advocate, and community leader, raised in a working-class Vermont family, and learned resilience and the value of service. With advanced degrees in science and business, Deuso has built a career focused on innovation, advocacy and business improvement. She currently sits on the boards of the PA Equality Project, PFLAG, and Emerge PA. Her vision for Downingtown centers on diversity, accountability, and community empowerment. After living abroad, she made Downingtown her home, where she lives with her husband, their dog, and three cats. What a like most is her commitment to fostering the "Good Neighbor" mentality, creating a positive, inclusive community and plans to make room at the table for everyone. Just another success story for one of the letters in LGBTQ. Yet another role model to never back down, be yourself, and remember anything is possible.

Good for her! It's always great (and important) to see trans people visible in mainstream life!
ReplyDeleteAfter all we're just people like everybody else.
DeleteGreat news!!! And I'm with Debra, the visibilty is a great thing!!
ReplyDeletePretty damn amazing, and so proud of her and the area for voting her in.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the people of Downingtown! They've begun what should become established precedent.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
That is WONDERFUL news! I will say, PA has a pretty good record of putting in LGBT people into elected government state and national. Hell, Rachel, Levine did excellent work under in PA and under Biden during the pandemic.
ReplyDeleteRachel Levine was excellent in Pennsylvania here especially at the beginning of the pandemic. I'd made a wise choice when he appointed her. A very knowledgeable person.
DeleteAWESOME!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNice to read a bit of good news for a change.

Boy you got that right!
DeleteCongratulations Mayor Deuso. A major accomplishment in these times.
ReplyDeleteIt was great, and all across the state a lot of Mayors won who were Democrats.
DeleteThe surname of her failed opponent raises, for me, awful memories of a lady mostly back in the 70s who made her name campaigning, though in her case NOT for orange juice. Any relation, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteAnd I know the witch of who you speak, to my knowledge I don't think there's any relation.
DeleteMy first smile of the morning. Voters will vote for good leaders . . . she has opened some minds to what leadership looks like.
ReplyDeleteThat’s great news!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the new Mayor! And that was a great win. There’s hope.
XOXO
I love reading good news! xoxo
ReplyDeleteA person of intelligence and involvement who knows what is expected of them as mayor.
ReplyDeleteThat’s what townhalls across America need !
Are trans people so horrible ?
We could use more people like Erica Deuso. :)
Pan in Wynnewood
Race, religion, transgender, sexual orientation, skin colour......none of these are relevant when being considered for a job or position. It should be the most suitable person for the job.
ReplyDeleteAmen sister!!!!!
DeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteGood for her!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Mayor Deuso and Downington! I hope her progressive platform is a huge success in her community.
ReplyDeleteWell, there's some good news!
ReplyDeleteGood news and congrats to her and to her Community she will be representing.
ReplyDeleteWe have to start somewhere right? I hope she does a great job!
DeleteGood luck and be brave
