One of the best things about being back in Harrisburg is seeing the resurgence of the drag community that was almost on the verge of being extinct. Now the city is being overrun with drag again, and one of the queens on the scene is Anita Holiday. I had the pleasure to meet her at the city's gay pride this year, and what a hoot! And a queen making a difference. Anita Holidays home city is York, PA , but this queen performs all over Central PA and can be seen in many of Harrisburg's weekly drag shows. It's been a big year for her too, being crowned Miss Gay Central PA , and the York Pride Ambassador. In addition to doing shows and helping to raise funds for charities too many to name, she is also a very strong activists for social issues and has even gone to bat to make sure the Covid vaccine stays accessible to those who want it. Her drag style is what I love, the grass roots feel of drag from the 80's and 90's...she is not concerned with the fishy and editorial, just good old fashion drag style which is all but to missing from drag these days in my opinion. Which has blossomed into her own house, the Haus of Holiday...featuring many fledging drag queens and Central PA first ever drag king, Beau Dacious, who is a compete hoot! But to me, Anita Holiday is important to drag as she is helping to keep the small town Drag Queen alive and well. So remember, to once in a while get out and support your local queens.
May the drag goddess bless Anita Holiday!
ReplyDeleteSo many drag queens out there doing good work for the community, the entire community, in addition to being fierce performers.
ReplyDeleteBut heaven forbid a child should see that!
Luv me some Anita.
ReplyDeletePeople forget that the drag queens led the charge at the Stonewall Inn of NYC in 1969 and Compton’s Cafeteria of SF in 1966. Always at the forefront and with more balls and more brains than most men.

I totally agree with you. I've done numerous posts on drag queens in the past and what they LED. And the sad part is even some people in the gay community have an issue with drag and trans, yet if not for those drugs and trans some of the gays might not have their rights that we now have.
DeleteLove it when they are visible and viable in community efforts! Brava!
ReplyDeleteI need a holiday too 🇬🇧
ReplyDeleteNow there's a fitting queen.
ReplyDeleteI adore local queens! Anita looks like a good time.
ReplyDeleteIneeda Holiday too!
ReplyDeleteI often wonder how the drag queens are doing what with The Felon and his minions squashing them little by little.
ReplyDeleteSquashing them???? They are showing up at the Kennedy Center in full drag!!!!!! Drag is exploding and more popular the ever I think. Beside queens can handle themselves.... remember Stonewall? We don't take shit.
DeleteDrag Queens are the Storm Troopers of Gaydom.
ReplyDeleteNobody messes with a Drag Queen, especially when she has half a brick in her handbag.
