LAUXMONT FARM

Once I was back from P-Town worked called. We had another weekend wedding, outdoors. One thing about this new job is that I enjoy so much being outdoors, so like I said is this work? This venue was in York County at Lauxmont Farm, currently owned by the Kohr family...think the ice cream. The estate and farm is now the ultimate wedding venue. The Kohr family still live on the land in their respective homes, but are not open to the public. There are at least five different areas on the farm to plan a wedding including a Japanese Garden. Lauxmont Farm and it's land occupies more then 750 green lush acres in Lower Windsor Township, exhibiting a placid beauty,  and offers views that over looks the Susquehanna River, but is incongruous with conflict with the current family and has generated over many years. But that is a story for another day. It has had four different owners over the years, one gentleman was a elite horse breeder and businessman out to protect his family's farm from sly money counters, or a huckster who bilked a lot of people. There was a surgeon who owned it and hired hands to keep the farming going. The original owner was one S. Forry Laucks. Laucks was a prominent York industrialist who owned York Safe & Lock Co, which achieved international renown for it's bank vaults. He established Lauxmont in 1910 as his country estate, cobbling it together from struggling farmsteads in the ensuing decades and eventually acquiring more then 2,000 acres. When complete it had several livestock operations, bee hives, a dairy with state of the art automated milking operation, and a lounge for visitors to enjoy sandwiches and home-made ice cream. While the only operation that continues is it's horses, most of the farming part is gone, but the Kohr family now runs it as a wedding venue. No doubt it's stunning. I'm dying to see the inside of the chateau.

A butterfly landed on our flowers as we we working on the arbor.
A sign?
Will be away for the weekend, at the Woods Campground, taking advantage of the weather. This will be my last jaunt there for the season, with another tea dance mix too boot!!! Ill try not to feed the wild animals. See y'all next week!

  4. I wish we had a “The Woods” nearby. Spectacular place for a wedding Lauxmont Farm, not The Woods. Well on second thought...

  6. What a beautiful spot! And wouldn't a Japanese Garden be so special as a wedding venue? All the floral arrangements could be ikebana!

  7. Those photos could have been taken in Scotland..! What an interesting location. Jx

PS Never heard of Kohr ice cream - but then again, I doubt you'd have ever had Thayer's or Sidoli's, or even Mr Whippy's over there, either...

  15. You could be happy in that house. Try not to be eaten by the bears, licked is okay, bitten not so.

I have a nice picture of Lauxmont Farms for sale. It's back in the day. Maybe 40's or 50's of the mansion and surrounding areas.
