WEEKEND POSTCARDS

Yes, back to reality for a two-day work week, how bad can it be? The time away was rainy yes. But contrary to the rainy weekend, I know some might not like the beach in the rain, but not to worry...we pub hopped most days and had a picnic in the indoor patio at the AirBnB. Monday and Tuesday were glorious. The house was on the beach...at night I could smell the ocean and hear the surf from bed. That alone was worth the whole trip.

The horseshoe crabs snap, seen after the storm and rains the night before, is for Tundra Bunny. I also heard in the early morning one day, a octopus was seen skimming across the sand heading back into the ocean. I wish I'd seen that.

  2. Great pictures!!!! And the part of "at night I could smell the ocean and hear the surf from bed" had me. I agree rain or shine that would be pure heaven for me too.

  4. Great beach photos, Maddie. Those horseshoe crabs look like they were having a beach party too! I don't know why I find them so fascinating, especially since they're not crabs or crustaceans at all -- they're more closely related to spiders & scorpions which terrify me, LOL!

    1. Oh I agree completely. This was up at one of the far end on the beach, at the end of a private beach. Generally after storms at sea they come out of the ocean like this. It's rare to see this far in Rehoboth though. Now where my rear Agnes lives they always litter Slaughter Beach. But when you see they're underneath structure, they're very alien like.

To hear the ocean as you lie in bed. Wonderful. X

    1. What exception to being with a bunch of guys on Fire Island, this is the only time I've ever had a house this close to the ocean to hear it going to sleep. I could so get used to that.

  6. Wow. I’ve never seen an octopus like that. How very cool. It looks glorious, rain or shine. I love being on the beach in a warm rain (without lightning). That’s a PILE of horseshoe crabs!

    1. And all the years I've been going to Rehoboth Beach which has to be close to 28 years now I have never once seen an octopus. I wish I'd seen it. I assume the surf probably brought it Beach bound. But they said it was moving like liquid across the sand back in the water.

  7. One Day, I told my dear friend, who is from here and now lives in NYC, that I wanted to come up that way and experience Rehoboth Beach and Fire Island. I really like the photos. Thanks for posting

    1. Rehoboth Beach, Fire Island, and Provincetown all have such a separate distinct feeling, and are all very amazing. Everyone should experience these three places at least once.

    Sounds like a wonderful time.
    Welcome home.

    1. I think you're right Bob. Rain, sunny and even in the snow once, the beach is always still a very cool place.

    1. It was a little cool to walk in the rain but I love a good walk in the rain when it's warm. Of course that means your shorts and t-shirts stick to you.

  10. Someone has to make a joke about you wanting to see eight tentacles in the surf.

  11. Even in the rain, a beach is always a wonder. It calms and soothes.

  12. Are they still torturing Horse shoe crabs for their blood?

    1. Sadly I think it still goes on, but not at the rate it used to. My fellow blog reader Agnes lives not far from Rehoboth on a beach called Slaughter Beach, which is incidentally how it got its name. They used to slaughter the poor horseshoe crabs to get their blood for various medicines.

  13. Thanks for clearing up the horseshoe crab picture. I thought they were mutant turtles.

  15. The whole beach looks so deserted!

I'd love to see horseshoe crabs - as a species, they are 250 million years old! A prehistoric throwback, indeed. Jx
