EIGHT HANDS FARM & BEE CO.

With more and more chains and corporate stores getting greedier, and heavens forbid offer any customer service, I have no problem paying a bit more and support more and more local shops and business. Between all the locales I often go to, I now have a nice plethora of shops to go to now to get things for myself or as gifts and support the local little shops.  The last time in New Hope I was finally able to go visit a good neighbor's new shop, Eight Hands Farm & Bee Co. which started out on their farm with cows and goats, and beehives. Tom and his wife make all the candles sold in the shop, along with all their beeswax products, and honey. I'm here to tell you, the candles are among some of the best I have ever smelled. Other items in the shop range from kitchen wares, dishes and pottery. gourmet concessions, candies, and sauces, linens, bath and skincare products and all kinds of little treasures to be found. The good thing: everything in the shop is handmade by other artisans or small businesses to sell in the shop. I can get lost in shops like this. While the shop is fairly new, it fits right in with quaint New Hope. I made a trip down yesterday and had lunch with a friend and got back late evening. I'm well supplied with candles now, what can I say I'm a huge candle whore... and many of the great smelling soaps, not to mention all four of the only gifts I had to get for the holiday. But how charming is the shop?

I'm a major sucker when it comes to kitchen things!

I also couldn't resist this honey bear honey pot with dipper.

Yes... it came home with me too.

  2. That shop looks great. I love candles, too. My house tends to smell a little too Princessy, which doesn't bother me, but visitors might not appreciate the doggy scent.

    Love,

    1. I'm the same way Janie. I tend to like nature smells like pine forest, burning fire and those kinds of scents. Most nights it looks like a seance, I light so many candles.

  3. I think more and more people are repulsed by corporate greed. I know I am. I feel that even if the cost is more at the local, independent shops, the value is better.
I love a good kitchen shop. I could spend many hours in there!

    1. I suspect you and I would not be much support for each other if we went shopping together, lol!!!! Another thing I like is you actually get service, and you actually feel they are very happy to have your business. The longer the shop is there, they are adding more items too.

  6. when my daughter and I went to New Hope last time we hit up the shop. I almost missed it was it was on a side street and sits back in. I was so happy to see someone moved in the building as it had been vacant for several years. I loved it. I too went a bit nut in there, and is was great seeing how the candles are made. You might be right...the best smiling I have bought in ages. Very nice seasonal scents. I also got some soaps, dressings, and some candies for my grandkids.

I adore the bear honeypot- brilliant.

    1. There candles are truly amazing smelling. plus if you clean out the glass jar they are in, you can reuse them for votive candles. I'm saving mine to return to the owners to see if they want to reuse them too.

  8. Those are the kinds of shops I love; so many things that you really cannot get anywhere else.
We have become totally local shoppers of late and I really enjoy it.

    1. I agree Bob. I'm done with chains of any kind. Unless it can't be helping. Like I will use True Value even though a chain, but they are so nice and helpful in there.

  12. Looks like a shop where Repugnants will not go. But then only people with taste should be allowed in.

    1. I don't think to many MAGA would like New Hope or Bucks County in general.

  13. What a great way to spend an afternoon, Maddie! I love browsing around too and the smell of beeswax candles. That honey bear pot is uber cute and I'm relieved to see it wasn't one of those hideous Starbucks bear mugs everyone seems to be fighting over!

    1. I haven't been into a Starbucks since before the pandemic. Now...how cute would a moose creamer be???

    2. Next time I see one, I'll get it for you -- but milking a moose is WAYYYYY too dangerous!
