FIVE BRIEF MOMENTS

A morbid thought, but the truth. If something were to unexpectedly happen to me tomorrow, I can say I've had a good life so far with no complaints looking back, and plan to have many more. Five brief moments in my life so far, that I won't soon forget. I find myself often thinking back of them.

This view from the Lake Cuomo/Portofino trip.

Seaside time in Rehoboth.

A, I call it, a puddle jumper airplane. A small flight over Nairobi plains. I was nervous. I was going to do my best Carol Channing Raspberries, but didn't know if they would get it down below.

My all-time favorite moment in life...to see elephants in the wild at the sanctuary at the Shedrick trust. Never forget it. Again, very nervous being so close, but the caretakers are always present.

A triple breech of whales in Provincetown.

With me, I know nature gives the best moments.

  1. The elephants and the whales are definitely breathtaking. We used to go whale watching off Bodega Bay and it was really something to see.
Thanks for sharing such great memories.

  5. Wonderful collection, MM!

Yes, I also feel like my bucket list has been pretty much checked off. Feeling... content... with life. Nothing to regret, no FOMO. Not so content about the world though, but with life in general. I wish the world... humans... were behaved better.

  6. I cannot believe you have been to the Shedrick Trust. I am so jealous. That is definitely on my "dream docket." They are an amazing organization, and Dame Daphne was just an incredible woman.

    1. I've been donating to the sanctuary for a couple years now. Angela Sheldrick is doing a great job carrying on her parents work with the trust. The sanctuary it self...is open by reservation daily for two hours only. No words can describe the experience. I have always loved elephants.

It's the moments like this that we enjoy what makes life fabulous, no?

    1. I sometimes refrain from taking to many pictures. Trying anyhow. We get too wrapped up taking pictures and the don't enjoy the now moment. Im trying to not get obsessed with taking too many pictures.

  10. The one memory I carry from a visit to British Columbia is sailing on the ferry to Fort William alongside a pod of Orcas. The ferry and whales travelled alongside one another for miles.

  11. Many of my favourite memories are of remote areas in Canada or the one-on-one animal encounters I've experienced during my career as an ecologist. I only wish that Go-Pro cameras had been invented 40 years ago, LOL!

    1. I think these moments with nature and animals make the best memories. I can remember at my old apartment in Bucks County, a baby and mother Fox got within inches of me when I was out sitting one night very late in the morning, like around 3:00 a.m.. it was almost as if she wanted to bring her little baby to me so I could see it. I would often see the mother many times while sitting out so I think she knew my shape and scent. She must have felt safe.

    Great vids.
Though I’m not as worldly traveled as you. They remind of trips to Lake Tahoe, Crystal Cove Beach, a flight in a private plane over the Sacramento River delta, the Shambala wild animal sanctuary and a cruise on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California that included whale watching.

    1. I don't know how anybody could ever get tired of whale watching. They're so amazing to see up close. I think we take for granted just how big they are until you see the breach.

  14. The days of wine and roses laugh and run away like a child at play
Through the meadow land toward a closing door
A door marked "nevermore" that wasn't there before

The lonely night discloses just a passing breeze filled with memories
Of the golden smile that introduced me to
The days of wine and roses and you

I have many, many happy memories of people, places and things. Too many to recount... Jx
