Last Friday found me in New York City for my annual pilgrimage with some of my ex co-workers from Bloomingdales to spend the day in NYC to have lunch and view what is left of the fine art of Christmas windows, let alone, the world of department stores. As always and by far, Bergdorf Goodman blows the lid off with creative concepts, and such detail, in these small spaces. This year I was able to see clan member Preston, as he is on the inside now working full time in the Men's Store. And I'm happy to report the store is still bustling with activity. I don't think this store is ever quiet. One of the things I eagerly anticipate every holiday though is their windows, which always feature stunning artistry and craftsmanship and elegance. There's just something magical about the way they glow at night too. Did you know that the planning for these windows starts almost right after the current holidays windows come down? Yes...a year planning and then finally a month spent on each window, by a team of about 100 people. This year the theme was "Toast of the Town, a fascinating theme as it celebrates the 200th anniversary of Fifth Avenue and highlights the vibrant role in NYC's character, with windows celebrating the two well-known parks and park system, the fabled cabs, the shopping district, the library system, and another the famous landmarks along Fifth Avenue like the Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building and the Plaza. Amazing. Take in the details if you can!!! The Green window was my favorite.
The gold window made me smile. That glass would hold a nice gin martini.
ReplyDeleteThat was the taxi cab window. I cab split open from a arial view.! That glass would make it official for a gin bath I believe.
DeleteI'm quite fond of the purple one, as well as the tower of bubbly. Do they need help, um, bringing it down?
ReplyDeleteYou sound all too willing to help.
DeleteThis is art.
ReplyDeleteArt installations. The level of imagination and conceptual work that goes into each one is astounding. Slow clap.
My fav is the red one. Hands down.
XOXO
A year long project really. Which is why they have a team under David Howey to just do windows.
DeleteUm.....where's the toast, butter and marmalade?
ReplyDeleteIncredible creativity! A visual feast.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular. So bummed that although I’m now there in winter every year, it’s AFTER the Christmas decorations come down.
ReplyDeleteA shame some year you can't be with your brother at Christmas.
DeleteI think I'm with you - the green one is my favorite. But, what is "Toast of the Town" without paying homage to Ed Sullivan??? Or did I miss it????
ReplyDelete😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
DeleteThose windows never disappoint. And I love the cocktail display too!
ReplyDeleteThere should be awards for store window displays. At least Bergdorf Goodman is left as a legacy retailer of luxury in New York.
ReplyDeleteThough maternal granma in Jersey preferred Bonwit-Teller, Strawbridges, Wanamakers and Bambergers, and paternal granma in California preferred I Magnin, City of Paris in SF, and later Bullocks and The Broadway in LA.

My grandmother too was a huge Wanamaker's and Bonwit-Tellers patron. For year she took me with her on the train to Philly to shop where both stores were so elegant. I think that is how I got involved in department store display.
DeleteAnd I Magnin!!!!! Now there was another stunningly swank department store. A shame the internet killed so many things. Nothing comes close to the service and personal experiences these stores offered. They were magical for me.
Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteBergdorf's windows are always stunning, but my favourites are the blue Landmarks and yellow Taxi Cab displays.... but where are the famous NYC rats, LOL?
ReplyDeleteIm partial to the green....why? Nature....and the squirrel of course!!
DeleteThank you for taking us along.
ReplyDeleteWill Jay
Oh I need that martini glass!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, the windows are amazing!
Stunning display of creativity, as always! Jx
ReplyDeleteThe displays are beautiful, you're in New York, that cute Luigi Mangione is now in New York, what a time to be where you are.
ReplyDeleteHe'll be coming under cover to the Casa du Borghese when we break him as my newest houseboy!!!!!!
DeleteWonderful window displays. You don't see anything like those at the mall.
ReplyDeleteI always loved the magic of cities and little towns at Christmas as a kid.
DeleteMind boggling. Never have I ever... wow. What an amazing accomplishement.
ReplyDeleteNever disappoints! And every year, all these years later Im still left impressed each season.
ReplyDeleteWhat am amazing theme to have! And they accomplished it. It's amazing to see the detail. We just don't see the magical part of the Christmas season anymore like this. I can recall every store having fun windows when I was little at Christmas. I feel like the traditions and the nostalgia part is disappearing fast.
ReplyDeleteWell Mistress, you know I ADORE Bergdorf Goodman. If they are Bloomingdales ever closed, then the department store culture and it's history will be over. There is no place like Bergdorf's and the service has always been unparalleled. The windows no exceptions! These are, and will always be art. These are so stunning, and a perfect theme. I'd say they win hands down again. I loved the green and red windows myself. Your friends' pictures before opening are haunting, I agree.
ReplyDeleteDrinks at the Goodman Bar?!?! It's been way to long since I had a drink there. But sure does come in handy when one gets parched from shopping. What's this about pigeons?
Yes pigeons!!!!! Coming up next...
DeleteThey never disappoint...like never.
