OFF TO THE BEACHES

Divine may have been the Beauty of the West, but the Mistress is Tease of the East!!!
Hi-Dee Ho to all my darling Love Bugs!
As you can see, I’m ready to get back on the road after a lovely time in the mountains of the Pocono's. All of you who visited me this summer know that it has been filled to the brim with fun crowds, amazing locales, some late night clandestine's, and beautiful weather! And maybe just a cock-a-tail or two! One of the many thrills this summer was sharing these trips with close friends and trying out some new square cuts.I know how challenging life-on-the-road can be, so I did what I could to help and left my underwear and swimsuit case open. Interesting that only Ms.Moorecock and Mistree Maddie's #1 Fan took advantage of that. I’m not sure what they used, but I think finding a few pair missing and a can of Redi Whip, and a box of award winning fudge in the case is worrisome. But enough of the past! It's now time to depart again! First up.....Rehoboth Beach!!!!!
I guess I won't be Promenading.
I am heading there with my good friends the Capital Street Duo for some days....and  then back to the Casa for a day, then hitting the road again with The Lad and company to Provincetown....
Now get outside and enjoy! And please, please don’t let the weather scare you. It’s been a crazy summer! Just follow my lead – put on your tanning oils and skivvies, wear your widest brim, pull the chinstrap down, so your hair doesn’t fly off, and head into the fresh ocean wind like Governor Christie chasing a Twinkie!  In the meanwhile...please feel free to use the Casa Pool and Cabana while I'm away!!! The houseboys are already having fun!

See ya in a couple weeks!

THE CINTRA ESTATE

One week when I was in New Hope,  and like everyday when going to work, I pass this dilapidating estate called Cintra, but have never really heard anything about it, and if anyone even lives in it. In New Hope, if wouldn't surprise me, as there are a couple of "Grey Gardens." So I went back, over time and took a few snaps to share, but held on to them. Between the interwebs, and some of the older gents I know, I have found out the skinny!

From the Antiques Magazine

Inspired by a palace outside Lisbon, William Maris, a local builder and entrepreneur in New Hope, began building Cintra around 1816. Among the distinctive features of the 2 ½-story fieldstone house are its floorplan—a central octagonal entrance with symmetrical flanking wings—its rear piazza and sunken garden, and its distinctive yellow pebble-dash exterior. Plagued by financial troubles, Maris remained there only until 1827. After changing hands several times, the estate was purchased in 1834 by the Ruth Ely family, prominent Quakers in Bucks County, who kept it for more than a hundred years.Henry Lee worked there for many years as a servant. Henry was a fugitive who arrived in the area in the 1830s. He first appeared in the US Census in 1840. He did not admit to his true birthplace of Maryland until 1840. He worked for many local families and as the town crier.  Then gay couple Bill Stanley and his partner Dewey Curtis were enthralled by its unusual design, stately interiors, and rich historical significance, and bought it in 1973.

Stanley and Curtis had met several years earlier while studying art and architecture at the University of Virginia. Both have been described as charming, flirtatious, and wonderfully entertaining—they hosted many, lavish and huge parties at Cintra—and absolutely voracious in their collecting. Curtis, who for a time was the curator of Pennsbury Manor in New Hope, worked side by side in Stanley's antiques business. Each was keenly knowledgeable and had a wonderful eye—developing a particular taste for 18th-century English furniture and decorative art. They used the first floor at Cintra as a showroom, and the mansion was quickly filled with art and antiques purchased on buying trips abroad—fueled by annual tours of English country houses that they organized for women's groups and other enthusiasts. Through the contacts they made over many years in Britain and Europe, they amassed a remarkable quantity of 18th- and early 19th-century household furnishings.

When Curtis died in 1986, Stanley continued to acquire antiques, but made little effort to sell them, and around that time closed his business to the public. The vast inventory of Sheraton-style furniture, Persian rugs, porcelain dishes, wooden and tortoiseshell boxes, and stacks of oil paintings and other artwork overtook portions of the house—in some parts, furniture was stacked nearly to the 12-foot-high ceilings. After Stanley's death in 2008, Rago Antique specialists here in New Hope, Tom Martin and Kristina Wilson spent several months virtually in residence at Cintra, organizing and cataloguing the contents, half of which, were sold at an earlier auction. A virtual time capsule was preserved in Stanley's antiques collection—accentuated by the endless stacks of old Country Life magazines strewn among the rooms. Today it remains empty decaying waiting for new life. While Cintra's decaying elegance adds a new chapter to the mansion's fabled history, the property, which is now on the National Register of Historic Places, will soon be on the market, and as with its contents, will hopefully find a third life.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

I have the best of friends, co-workers I tell you. They have called me everything from Ms.Crawford, Tallulah, as in Bankhead, Cruella DeVile and Karen Walker.  Yes, I do like my gin, and have been know to attend a happy hour, and know the names of all the best mixologist, and can get a sharp tongue.... maybe there is a point to there observations. Here is times in my life and how I reply with the help of Karen Walker.

One can never say I not there for them.

When asked about which sport I like.....

When asked what do I think if Donald Trump becomes President.....

I've been known to bring only healthy beverages to parties...

When my friend says he needs to stop at...yikes, Walmart....

I always take care of my trick or treaters at Halloween....

When I ran into my reader Cooper at the Woods this weekend and couldn't find a chair ....

When asked about life.....

When my favorite co-worker had hurt her back and arm.....

When the end of the day arrives and my friend comes to visit....

ANOTHER HOT AND HUMID ONE

I'm off today....you know where to find us chickens.

SHARON NEEDLES...HOLLYWOODN'T

I have always love Sharon Needles...such a creative queen. Here is the fabulous gothic dark one now with her newest... where Sharon gets inspired by  real-life Hollywood horrors, like the deaths of Elizabeth “The Black Dahlia” Short, iconic actress Jayne Mansfield, and Manson Family murder victim Sharon Tate in her latest video Hollywoodn’t, directed by Santiago Felipe. “I wanted to take that darkness and convey old Hollywood stories that turned up in tragedy,” said Needles, adding the focus was on “disturbing and sad stories of women who met their demise in Hollywood” and “dark satire and cruel humor at the expense of real women whose lives were unfortunately cut short. I have an obsession with Hollywood, and I have an obsession with death.”  The video also features NYC'S fabulous dark queen, Severely Mamed as the news reporter.

GLAMPED*TRAMPED*VAMPED*

I sure hope all you love bugs had a lovely weekend!!!
You be happy to know the Mistress survived another fabulous time up at the Woods Campground for their very fun Illuminations Weekend. I also survived, the disco inferno, the heat and humidity inferno, numerous bear traps(they thought they could lure me in with honey), and with my gin in take, managed to not get scolded by any open flames!!! Illuminations is my favorite weekend up at the Woods..so pretty with all the candles, luminaries, torches, and lanterns that light up the night. I give them credit to be brave enough to have so much flame around my gin breath. But this year, I had a new surprise in the form of a guy named Cooper. Cooper is a blog reader of mine and was up from Louisville to come to the Woods. He left word on my blog post, and Ms.Moorecock tried to get word to me, but alas, cell reception is terrible there. After a round about, and asking where a Maddie could be found, he located me. I must admit to being just a tad smitten with this handsome hunk, as he took my breath away! I don't recall, but I may have even dropped my ostrich fan. And my cock-a-tail. And ever so nice too! It was a real pleasure meeting you Cooper!!!! So glad you enjoyed your visit. Now about that glamping......
Some of the beautiful illuminations....
Have you ever wondered what becomes of all the empty gin bottles I go through???
Some of the camp signs and oddities....
Some of the beautiful flora's....
Just four or five people in the pool this weekend...
A gratuitous shot of the Mistress's tanning legs and new square cut....
The Mistress's mode of transport. Not driving mind you....but has his ass carted in the back sidecar!!!!
But the Awwwww moment happened when the Mistress told company and friends I thought I saw a guy just walk pass with two squirrels on his back? I of course, thought I just had to many stiffeners much heat. They all said your drunk!!! Well...and this is the part where if the Dogs Mother is reading...WARNING...tell Abby to leave the room.......
Yes indeed! This gentleman, in every sense of the word, had two baby squirrels on his back! Well, being that I love my Bouvier, I had to know the story. We told me he thinks they fell out of their nest, and the mother hasn't been seen. The day they saw them, every time he and his friend would leave their site, the squirrels would follow them. Then right away, they crawled up the back of him to his shoulders and neck. Needless to say, they were quite the cuties, and crowd pleasers. They even let me pet them, and they were just beyond adorable. Later that day when I saw him, they were still on his shoulders, curled up together, fast asleep. It was pretty oblivious he was getting attached to them too, and I asked what he planned to do when he leaves for the weekend. I have the feeling he might have two new pets!!! It was so sweet, and proof nature works in mysterious ways.

So it was yet again another fabulous time glamping. A huge THANK YOU to the staff of the Woods Campground and my dear old, old, and I do mean old friend, Winfred for putting up with my ass, and all their wonderful hospitality, and what a pleasure meeting new friends and seeing some old ones. It was a trip to remember! To read other posts on the Woods, just click the link in the tags.
