WHERE THE DAY LEAD......

In my previous post , you recall I had the day off. It was a lovely day...all to myself... which I greatly enjoy, since I seem to ever have time to myself. I ran a couple of errands and my day lead me here......
...to a cemetery high above the town of Lambertville. Don't adjust your calendar, it is indeed mid-November, but for some reason I'm drawn to cemeteries. I have always wanted to go see the high point here. One could even see New Hope from and the iron bridge.
The earliest headstones I saw dated to the mid 1800's.I was not alone long....I was soon joined by these characters.......
They were amazingly tame and came quiet close.... upon a search I found out they are Helmeted Guiniafowl.
I found out their native to Africa and have been introduced to Australia, West Indies, Brazil and the South of France. I can only surmise they were pets to one of the neighboring homes

I do believe they thought they were leaving with me...the more the merrier.....

Took a nice walk along the canal......

Headed back to town.....When was the last time one saw a 5 and Dime?

And then took a lovely luncheon at Left Bank at the Lambertville House...
An espresso martini......followed with a cheese board with bread and apple butter spread, and a bowl of Carrot Ginger Soup.......

All the while eating with an audience.
These are by far,  my favorite days the most.

  2. Helmeted Guiniafowl!?!?!? In Lambertville! I'd would have said the drinks were hitting you, had I not seen pictures. They are fascinating birds. It certainly was a beautiful day, to just see where the day took you. Now how about one of those martinis???

  4. Your area is one of the most diverse and beautiful areas I have seen. From past post, there is so much to see and do, and not to mention all the great history that goes with it. What is exactly in the canal? Great pictures! Great lunch.

    1. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania built the Delaware canal as part of its Main Line of Internal Improvements to carry coal, limestone, cement, and lumber from the northeastern reaches of Pennsylvania to Philadelphia. The boats would be pulled my mules. I t was still used till the 1940's I t has been untouched since then. When I first moved here, the canals were no longer used of course, except for the mule rides which were now a tourist attraction. But with floods in 2004, 05 ,06 the canal was washed away or damaged, leaving a number of sections of the towpath closed and impassable, including a long stretch north of Washington Crossing and sections near New Hope. In February 2008, a section of the towpath collapsed and 23 miles of the canal lost water, leaving our side drained in sections. The New Jersey side is fine the whole course.

  9. I've traveled to England and France, and I would swear your town looks a bit like both in areas. Loved seeing it. Hoe cool are those fowl? So pretty. They must like the cemetery too!

  11. What a great day! That is why I love vacationing alone - just wandering and doing as the the whim strikes. Everyone should do those types of things - and I should remember to do them more often; I haven't spent a day like that in a number of years.

  15. You live well, Mistress. It's a pity you didn't feed the fowls as well as yourself. Do you think they'd like white bread, like ducks?

  17. Those Guiniafowl are beautiful. I once encountered them myself once, and I couldn't ditch them. They definitely like people. Looks like you had a very nice day.
